Here, the setting and era of the story are clear from the beginning, and the evil Jawahal is given a backstory that’s perhaps too detailed, raising rather a lot of questions.

Because there were tons of things I liked about this book.

It was difficult to follow. The twins are separated by their grandmother to keep them safe from those who might wish them harm. The little “showdown” and “game” towards the end, too, was a bit tacky. If you’ve read his stuff and read this, then you’ll paalcio know what I mean.

How can Ben and Sheere have a mystical connection because they were twins separated at birth? The setting for the book is almost a character in and of itself as are several of the locations throughout, including the titular “Midnight Palace”. He kept getting better and better until genius struck him with Shadow.

Even though I did get a bit annoyed by the fact that the adults are conveniently absent throughout this whole story, I loved that the children are the focus of the book.

Not only that, but that both of the lives appear to be in danger from a mysterious entity that is somehow connected to their later father, a brilliant engineer responsible for building the train system connecting major cities in India.


Now, a mysterious stranger calling himself Jawahal is after the twins, but Ben and his friends are determined to get to the bottom of the whole affair before anyone gets hurt. Give it a try just for his prose, if anything! I was actually kind of angry by the end because I really wanted to like the book and find it creepy, like Prince of Mist. I have to admit that I’ve skimmed through the last 40 kedianoche just don’t understand why Jawahal had to make everything so freaking complicated.
